Paris, Dec 16 (Reporter) French President Emmanuel Macron called an emergency meeting for Monday after a powerful cyclone, Chido, barreled through the French overseas territory of Mayotte, leaving a trail of destruction, media reported. Macron will chair a crisis meeting on the situation in the Indian Ocean islands at the Ministry of the Interior at 6 p.m. (17:00 GMT), BFMTV reported. Chido, the most powerful cyclone to hit Mayotte in nearly a century, battered the islands on Saturday. Mayotte Prefect Francois-Xavier Bieuville said hundreds, if not thousands, of people were feared dead given the violence of the event. Mayotte lies in the southwestern Indian Ocean, off the coast of Africa.
