Bhubaneswar, Aug 16 (Reporter) A low-pressure area has formed over the Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of West Bengal and Bangladesh due to the influence of a cyclonic circulation over South Bangladesh and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal, according to the meteorological sources on Friday. This system is likely to intensify and move west-northwestward across Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand over the next 2–3 days. As per the IMD forecast, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in several places, with isolated extremely heavy rainfall likely in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, and Kendrapara. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated places in the districts of Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Deogarh, and Angul, with heavy rain expected at isolated places in the districts of Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, and Cuttack. Meanwhile, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has directed the concerned collectors to keep the administrative machinery ready to face any eventuality. The collectors have been instructed to ensure drains and stormwater channels are decongested, and adequate dewatering pumps are deployed as needed.
