Kashmir wakes up to sunny morning, dry weather predicted till January 15

Srinagar, Jan 7 (Reporter) Kashmir on Tuesday woke up to a sunny morning even as night temperature continued to remain below sub zero levels across valley, officials said. The Meteorological Department Srinagar has predicted the weather will generally remain dry till January 15 except a chance of light rain over plains of Jammu and snow at isolated to scattered places during January 11 and 12. The minimum temperature recorded during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday in Srinagar was at -0.9°C against -0.5 °C the previous night and this was 2.8°C above the average for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir during the period. The maximum temperature recorded on Monday in Srinagar was 1.5°C below normal of 5.1°C, the MeT office said. Sun appeared on Tuesday allowing tourists to undertake a shikara ride in the Iconic Dal Lake in Srinagar surrounded by snow clad mountains representing a mesmerizing view' of nature.Tourist spot of Pahalgam was the coldest place with the minimum night temperature recorded at -7.8°C on Tuesday. This was 1.6°C below normal for the valley of shepherds in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Gulmarg also witnessed a drop in the night temperature after the recent snowfall and recorded at a low of -6.6 °C on Tuesday against the -4.5°C which was recorded the previous night. However, it was still 1.2°C above normal for the famed ski resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district for the day. The frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara had a low of -1.4°C, the picnic spot of Kokernag in south Kashmir -0.5°C and Qazigund recorded -0.4°C on Tuesday, the MeT office said...////...
