Kashmir celebrates annual Urs of Dastageer Sahib

Srinagar, Oct 15 (Reporter) The Annual Urs of famous Sufi saint Hazrat Sheikh Syed Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA), popularly known as “Peer Dastageer Sahab” celebrated in Kashmir valley with religious fervor and gaiety on Tuesday. Thousands of devotees from various parts of the Kashmir valley thronged to the shrines of Dastigeer Sahib at Khanyar and Sarai Bala in Srinagar to participate in the congregational prayers on the occasion. At Khanyar in downtown Srinagar, the holy relic of the saint was displayed before a large number of devotees after the Namaz. The holy relic would be displayed for two days after every prayer at the shrine. A similar function was also held at Sarai Bala in Srinagar. A large number of devotees including men and women participated in the night-long prayers “Shab Khawani” at Dastageer Sahib Shrine at KHanyar on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday during which special prayers were held for peace, stability, and prosperity of the Kashmir valley and the whole world.
