Hubballi, Mar 29 (Reporter) Former Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar on Saturday warned that the Congress-led Karnataka government could crumble if an impartial probe is conducted into the alleged honey-trap scandal, which he claimed involves multiple ministers, including K N Rajanna.
"If the government continues to suppress the inquiry, it could ultimately lead to its collapse. I have repeatedly insisted on a proper investigation by the CID to bring out the truth," Shettar told reporters here.
Raising fresh concerns about the scandal, he pointed to the shifting stance of Rajanna’s son, Rajendra, who initially claimed to be a victim of the honey trap, but later changed his position, citing threats to his life.
"These inconsistencies suggest that there is much more to the case than what is being revealed," he remarked.
Shettar alleged that the government is deliberately trying to bury the matter to protect those involved. He questioned why Rajanna, after admitting in the Assembly that he was a victim of the honey trap, waited several days before filing a complaint with the Home Minister instead of approaching the police directly.
"This raises serious suspicions—what is the government trying to hide?" he asked.
The BJP leader also took aim at the government over soaring prices of essential commodities, including electricity, milk and transport fares.
He criticised the decision to pass the burden onto the common man while claiming to support farmers.
"If the government truly cares about farmers, why not allocate funds from the state budget instead of making people pay extra? The Rs four per litre incentive for milk should come from government funds, not from the pockets of ordinary citizens," he said.
Shettar insisted that only a full-fledged CID probe could expose the truth behind the honey trap case, warning that any attempt to cover it up could have dire political consequences for the ruling Congress government...////...
