Bengaluru, Oct 9 (Reporter) Karnataka Congress MLA and former minister Vinay Kulkarni has been booked in connection with an alleged two year old incident of rape, kidnapping and criminal intimidation, police sources said on Wednesday
.
The case was registered after a 34-year-old social worker lodged a complaint on Tuesday at Sanjay Nagar Police Station here.
In her statement, the woman alleged that she met the Dharwad MLA in 2022, and the two had communicated frequently through phone and video calls.
She claimed that Kulkarni engaged in "inappropriate and vulgar" conversations before forcibly taking her to a secluded location on August 24, 2022, near Kempegowda International Airport, Devanahalli, where she was sexually assaulted inside a vehicle. The victim further alleged that Kulkarni threatened her with severe consequences if she disclosed the incident.
An FIR has been filed, naming Kulkarni as the primary accused, along with his close associate, Arjun. The charges against them have been slapped under sections of the IT Act and various provisions of the Indian Penal Code, covering rape, kidnapping, criminal intimidation, destruction of evidence, and assault with intent to outrage a woman's modesty.
