Hathras, July 3 (Reporter) Uttar Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday said that a judicial inquiry by the retired judge of the High Court would be conducted into the Hathras stampede incident in which 121 people have been killed.
Talking to the reporters after reviewing the situation with the officials, the CM said, "We cannot deny that it is just an accident. Even if it's an accident then who is responsible for it? And if it's not an accident and is a conspiracy then who is behind it. Therefore we have decided that a judicial inquiry under the chairmanship of a retired judge of the High Court will be conducted."
He said, "Retired officers of the administration and police will be part of the inquiry and we will go to the bottom of the incident and will punish whosoever is guilty. Besides suggestions will be taken so as such incidents do not reoccur in future. An SOP could be formulated which can be implemented in future events."
Yogi said that a notification for the judicial inquiry will be issued by Wednesday evening.
The Chief Minister said that a sad and painful accident took place in a tehsil of Hathras on Tuesday. "To go into the bottom of the incident a committee was constituted, 121 people have died, who along with UP hailed from Haryana, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. 31 people got injured in the incident, who are being treated in Hathras, Aligarh, Etah and Agra, and all are out of danger," he said.
He said that as per the eyewitnesses account after the satsang was over a group of women moved forward to touch the Kathavachak. "The group was followed by a crowd which eventually climbed on top of each other. The mob came from both sides of the GT road leading to the incident. During the entire episode the sewadars also pushed the devotees back," Yogi said.
The CM said that the sad part is that sewadaars do not allow the administration officials to enter the enclosure. "Initially efforts were made to hush up the matter, but when the administration officials started the process of taking the injured to the hospital majority of the sewadaars fled from the spot," he said.
Yogi said that to probe the turnout of events a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by the ADG Agra zone was constituted which has submitted its preliminary report. "But it has been asked to get to the bottom of the incident. There are a lot of aspects which need to be probed and it is very important," he said.
The CM said that an FIR has already been lodged. "I visited the spot. Our three ministers along with the Chief Secretary and the DGP are already camping here since Tuesday, Steps are being taken to fix accountability and responsibility," he said.
To a question, he said that some people have the tendency of searching for politics in such sad incidents.
The CM said the state and the central governments have announced financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh to the kin of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh to the injured. "The education of the children of innocent people, who are victims of the accident, will be arranged under UP CM Bal Sewa Yojna," he said...////...
