J&K officials reshuffled ahead of poll announcement

Srinagar, Aug 16 (Reporter) Ahead of the likely announcement of Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir by Election Commission of India, authorities in the Union Territory on Friday transferred over 100 officials from police and civil administration. The large scale transfers evoked sharp reaction from the National Conference which demanded immediate suspension of these orders. "Why has a massive reshuffle been ordered in the police and administration since last evening, and today morning, seemingly to preempt the Election Commission’s announcement? It appears to have been orchestrated by a BJP-appointed LG to benefit his party and its allies,” party General Secretary Ali Mohamad Sagar said. “This move seems clearly intended to undermine the integrity of the electoral process, which restricts such transfers to prevent the ruling party from gaining an undue administrative advantage over the Opposition," he said. "The LG government has strategically shaken up the entire administrative setup compromising the principles of free and fair elections. We call on the @ECISVEEP to thoroughly investigate this blatant attempt and to immediately suspend the implementation of these orders," he added The government on Friday posted Nitish Kumar as head of J&K’s police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and also ordered the transfer of several police officers with immediate effect. The government has also transferred several civil officers including deputy commissioners of some districts. On Thursday, the Home Ministry named senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Nalin Prabhat as the next Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir Nalin Prabhat, was appointed as Special Director General J&K police and will be taking over as police chief upon the retirement of R R Swain, the current DGP. As per the government order, Gurinderpal Singh has been posted as Senior Superintendent of Police, Baramulla, while Nagpure Amod Ashok, has been posted as SSP Udhampur. Mumtaz Ahmed, has been transferred and posted as SSP Poonch. Mohammad Aslam has been posted as SSP Doda. Anayat Ali Choudhary, SSP Kathua, has been transferred and posted as SSP Shopian, Maqsood-Ul Zaman, has been given incharge of Deputy Inspector General of North Kashmir Range, Baramulla, vice Vivek Gupta, Similar transfers have been made in civil administration. Shakeel Ul Rehman Rather, Deputy Commissioner Bandipora has been transferred and posted as Director Floriculture, Parks, and Gardens in Kashmir. Manzoor Ahmad Qadri, Managing Director of J&K Agro Industries Development Corporation, has been appointed as Deputy Commissioner, Bandipora. Rajesh Kumar Shavan, has been posted as Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar. Rajesh Sharma has been posted as Deputy Commissioner Samba...////...
