Kangra, Aug 15 (Reporter) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu presented the prestigious 'Prerna Srot Samman', the highest state award, to Prof (Dr) Mahesh Verma, Vice Chancellor of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) at the State-level Independence Day function held in Dehra, Kangra on Thursday.
The award, presented by Sukhu, recognizes Prof. Verma's exceptional contributions to innovation and excellence in education and healthcare, as well as his enduring connection to his Himachali roots.
Prof. Verma, a native of Bilaspur, in HP had a distinguished career in dentistry and education. He is a recipient of several national honours, including the Padma Shri, Dr. B.C. Roy Award, and National Science and Technology Award.
Under his leadership, GGSIPU has emerged as a leading centre for knowledge, innovation, and research. Prof. Verma is also renowned for his advancements in dental education and oral healthcare across India.
Upon receiving the award, Prof. Verma expressed his gratitude, saying, "This honour is not just mine, but a tribute to the collective dedication and hard work of the entire academic and healthcare communities." He emphasised his commitment to furthering educational excellence and healthcare innovations in his roles as GGSIPU Vice Chancellor and as a dental professional.
