Muscat/New Delhi, July 16 (Reporter) An Indian national was killed and another injured in a mass shooting incident near a Shiite mosque in the Oman capital, Muscat, on Monday evening that left six people dead and 28 others wounded. The Indian Embassy in a post on X said: “Following the shooting incident reported in Muscat city on 15 July, Foreign Ministry of Sultanate of Oman has informed that one Indian national has lost his life and another is injured. “Embassy offers its sincere condolences & stands ready to offer all assistance to the families.” Oman police said Tuesday that the three attackers were also killed. The Oman police said in a statement that Monday's shooting incident at the Imam Ali Mosque in the Al-Wadi Al-Kabir area in the east of Oman's capital Muscat, "resulted in the death of five individuals, the martyrdom of one policeman, and the death of the three perpetrators," with at least 28 other people wounded. Pakistan's embassy in Muscat said that four Pakistani nationals were killed in the shooting. The shooting happened on the night of the ninth day of the Islamic month of Muharram, when Shia Muslims attend rituals on the eve of Ashura. There was no immediate claim from any group, but supporters of the Sunni jihadist group Islamic State (IS) celebrated the shooting on social media networks.
