Mumbai, Feb 25 (Reporter) Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrasekhar Bawankule on Tuesday instructed all the fishermen's organisations in the state to prepare a policy for allocating ponds in an equitable manner and determine the pond area according to the number of members of the organisations while allocating ponds.
Speaking at a meeting held in Mantralaya regarding the problems of ground-reservoir fisheries cooperatives, he said that the organisation having 1-25 members should be allocated ponds up to 50 hectares.
A template should be drawn up for this allocation and the responsibility of the same should be assigned to the respective area officers, he said.
He also said that six Project Management Consultants (PMCs) should be appointed to increase the fisheries in six revenue divisions in the state as well as to create quality in the business.
This will boost fish production in the state, he pointed and asked the Fisheries Department to organise training for fishermen's organisations.
He said that planning should be done to provide high quality fish seeds and suggested to provide funds for availability of quality fish seeds.
Bawankule further said that all the lakes in the state should be under ambit of the Fisheries Department and instructed officials to prepare a proposal regarding this.
