HC to hear Singhvi’s plea against HP RS poll on August 6

Shimla, July 24 (Reporter) The Himachal Pradesh High Court will hear on August 6 a petition challenging the election of Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Harsh Mahajan, a lawyer said on Wednesday. The petition, filed by Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who lost the election to Mahajan, was listed for hearing before Justice Jyotsna Rewal Dua. The Rajya Sabha election on February 27 saw six rebel Congress MLAs and three independent MLAs vote against Singhvi. Singhvi's petition disputed the election results, which were determined through a slip system after the voting ended in a tie. In the petition, Singhvi claimed that the method used to declare the winner was flawed and legally incorrect. He filed the petition to annul the election results and demand a new election for the seat. Mahajan, the winning candidate, has called for the dismissal of the petition, arguing that the Election Commission was not named as a respondent, rendering the petition invalid...////...
