HC refuses to ban Kolkata march called by students on Aug 27

Kolkata, Aug 23 (Reporter) The Calcutta High Court on Friday refused to entertain West Bengal government’s application seeking a ban on a march called by students on August 27 to protest against the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder of a lady medic. Sources said a division bench comprising Justice Harish Tandon and Justice Hiranmay Bhattacharyya refused to entertain the government plea saying there was no need to intervene in the matter. The court did not accept the state counsel's argument that the march to the secretariat might create law and order problems. The “Nabanna Avijan” or “go to state secretariat at Howrah” on Tuesday has been publicised on the social media by the student community, urging all sections of society to join them for seeking justice for the 31--year-old woman medic and demanding security for women. The students, however, urged the participants not to carry any flags during the march but some Opposition political parties vowed to join them. The call for march on August 27 is similar to the August 14-15 " take control of the night by women" protest which was also publicised on social media...////...
