Kolkata, Aug 23 (Reporter) The BJP on Friday demanded an Enforcement Directorate probe into the money laundering aspect of the alleged financial irregularities in the R G Kar Medical College and Hospital since 2021.
The demand came on a day when the Calcutta High Court shifted the probe into the monetary lapses in the institution from Kolkata Police to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Union minister of state and Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar told reporters that the ED has the expertise to investigating money laundering offences so it should take suo motu cognizance and start investigation along with the CBI in the financial irregularities at the R G Kar Hospital.
Earlier, the HC’s single bench of Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj ordered the CBI to probe the alleged financial irregularities at the hospital during the tenure of former principal Sandip Ghosh, who is already being grilled by the agency over the murder of a lady medic on August 9.
The HC direction came during the hearing on a public interest litigation filed by former deputy superintendent of RG Kar Hospital, Akhtar Ali.
On Friday, the BJP also held demonstrations outside police stations across the state to protest the detention of Opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari and other leaders during an agitation near the state secretariat at New Town on Thursday...////...
