New Delhi, Jan 31 (Reporter) In a move to boost innovation, knowledge, and public service enhancement, the Centre on Friday expanded Aadhaar authentication to both government and private entities with the notification of the Aadhaar Authentication for Good Governance (Social Welfare, Innovation, Knowledge) Amendment Rules, 2025. “These rules have been notified by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) under the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits, and Services) Act, 2016,” the Ministry said in a statement. The amendment aims to improve transparency and inclusivity in the decision-making process. “It seeks to expand the scope and utility of Aadhaar authentication to promote good governance, social welfare, innovation, and knowledge dissemination. This will allow Aadhaar to be used for enhancing service delivery, improving ease of living for residents, and enabling better access to various services,” the Ministry added. The amendment will facilitate seamless access to services in sectors such as e-commerce, travel, tourism, hospitality, and healthcare, even when provided by non-government entities. It will enable both government and private entities to use Aadhaar authentication for public interest purposes, including fostering innovation, disseminating knowledge, enhancing ease of living, and improving access to essential services. “This will help both service providers and service seekers engage in trusted transactions,” the Ministry said. Entities seeking Aadhaar authentication must apply with details of their intended requirements to the relevant ministry or department of the Central or State government. A designated portal will be available for this purpose. Applications will be reviewed by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), and MeitY will issue approvals based on UIDAI’s recommendations. Once approved, the concerned Central or State government ministry or department will officially notify the entity for Aadhaar usage. This amendment is expected to enhance access to efficient, Aadhaar-enabled services, encourage the development of innovative digital solutions, and strengthen government-private sector partnerships for improved governance...////...
