Paris, June 6 (Reporter) Iga Swiatek continued her quest for a fourth French Open title with a commanding victory over Coco Gauff, securing her spot in yet another final at Roland Garros here on Thursday.
The world number one is poised to make history as the first woman to clinch the tournament three consecutive times since Justine Henin in 2007, following her 6-2, 6-4 win over Gauff.
After a nail-biting second-round encounter where Swiatek saved a match point against Naomi Osaka, the Polish sensation has breezed through her matches, losing just 14 games across the subsequent four rounds.
Reflecting on her performance, Swiatek remarked on the intensity of the match, particularly in the second set, but credited her consistency and tactical adjustments for the victory.
With an impressive record of 34 wins and only 2 losses at Roland Garros, Swiatek is riding a 20-match winning streak at the event.
The 23-year-old has triumphed in all four of her previous Grand Slam finals and is set to vie for another title against either Mirra Andreeva or Jasmine Paolini in the upcoming final.
Despite hitting only 10 winners, Swiatek steamed on Gauff's 39 unforced errors to secure her victory. Gauff, who will ascend to world number two next week, faced her 11th defeat in 12 matches against Swiatek, all in straight sets.
The American's frustration boiled over during the match, resulting in a heated exchange with the chair umpire.
Swiatek's dominance on the court puts her in contention to join an elite group of players, including Henin, Chris Evert, and Steffi Graf, as one of the few women to claim four Roland Garros titles in the Open era.
Moreover, she is on track to emulate Serena Williams by completing the treble of French, Madrid, and Rome Open titles in the same year.
Despite Gauff's valiant efforts, Swiatek's superior performance proved insurmountable as she secured her place in the final, setting the stage for a thrilling conclusion to the French Open...////...
