Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, May 30 (Reporter) Maharashtra Assembly Leader of Opposition Vijay Wadettiwar on Thursday flayed the Mahayuti government for farmer suicides in Marathwada region and demanded action against those responsible for the alleged suicide of farmer Vitthal Dhabhade.
Talking to newspersons after meeting Dhabhade's family members at his village, Wadettiwar said he and his party would firmly stand behind them at their moment of bereavement.
Dabhade (52), a farmer of the Pimpalkhunta village of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, allegedly hanged himself to death from a tree in the field as banks refused to disburse agricultural mortgage loan.
When the now-deceased farmer sought a loan from a private bank four months ago by pledging the farm, the branch manager allegedly kept refusing to transfer the loan amount to his account even four to five months after he pledged his farm.
in a purported suicide note, Dabhade accused the bank branch manager of being reluctant to transfer the loan amount to his account. "Now I'm fed up..I'm upset with my fate," he wrote in the letter, mentioning that money was not credited to his account for four months after the loan was approved.
The Dabhade family also complained that the bank manager and the agent asked for money.
"This matter is serious and it is a failure of the Mahayuti government. The government should give justice to the bereaved family and take measures to prevent further suicides by farmers...////...
