Factionalism will harm party, Kharge warns

Jewargi (Karnataka), Mar 9 (Reporter) Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has issued a stern warning against factionalism within the party, cautioning that any discord between Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar could prove detrimental to both the party and the state. Speaking at the flagging-off ceremony of the Kalyana Patha project here on Saturday, Kharge urged both leaders to work in harmony for Karnataka’s development. "If Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar move in different directions, it will weaken the party and hurt Karnataka’s progress," he remarked. Kharge lauded Siddaramaiah for presenting a record 16th budget and praised his leadership in steering the state’s governance. He also acknowledged Shivakumar’s contributions as the former Energy and Irrigation Minister, as well as his tenure as the state Congress President. His remarks come in the backdrop of speculation over a possible power-sharing arrangement or a rotational Chief Ministership between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar. While Shivakumar has been vocal about his Chief Ministerial ambitions, leaders close to Siddaramaiah insist that he will complete his full five-year tenure. Reflecting on his own political journey, Kharge recalled his loss in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and reaffirmed his support base in Kalaburagi. He also commented on leadership styles, stating that while some rely on divine intervention, he believes in progress through people’s will and hard work.
