Islamabad/New Delhi, Oct 15 (Reporter) Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who is in Islamabad for the SCO Summit, on Tuesday evening attended the dinner ceremony hosted by Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in honour of the heads and delegates of member countries attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit. The Pakistan Prime Minister and the EAM shook hands and exchanged courtesies at the beginning of the dinner interaction. This visit by the EAM is the first by an Indian foreign minister to Pakistan in nearly a decade. Both leaders greeted each other at the dinner. Earlier, EAM Jaishankar arrived at Islamabad’s airbase shortly before 3:30 pm and was presented with bouquets of flowers by children in greeting. Jaishankar was received at the Nur Khan airbase by Foreign Office Director General (South Asia & SAARC) Ilyas Mehmood Nizami. The Indian EAM is among a dozen leaders participating in the summit, which is scheduled to hold its main events on Wednesday. EAM has made it clear that he is visiting Islamabad only to attend the SCO summit as a member, thereby ruling out any bilateral interactions. The SCO summit, taking place from October 15 to 16, aims to bolster multilateral cooperation among member states, focusing on pressing issues such as counter-terrorism, economic collaboration, and climate change. The SCO comprises China, India, Russia, Pakistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Belarus — with 16 more countries affiliated as observers or “dialogue partners”. Pakistan became a full member of the SCO at its 2017 summit in Kazakhstan, which was attended by ex-PM Nawaz Sharif, who recently also expressed the hope for reviving ties with India.
