Delhi LG grants approval for prosecution of Arundhati Roy under UAPA

New Delhi, June 14 (Reporter) Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Friday approved the prosecution of renowned author and a former professor from Kashmir, Arundhati Roy, under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for her alleged provocative speech at an event in 2010. According to officials from Raj Niwas, “An FIR was registered against Arundhati Roy and Sheikh Shaukat Hussain, a former professor of the Central University of Kashmir, following an order from a local court. Mr. Saxena has granted approval for their prosecution under Section 45(1) of the UAPA.” Both of them are accused of allegedly delivering provocative speeches at a conference held in New Delhi on October 21, 2010. In this case, Kashmiri social activist Sushil Pandit lodged a complaint with the police.
