Kerala BJP President Rajeev Chandrasekhar has alleged that the preparations for the upcoming local body elections have been completely sabotaged by the ruling CPI(M) in the state.
He stated that serious irregularities have been identified in ward delimitation and voter lists in several municipal corporations, including Thiruvananthapuram, as well as in the majority of panchayats.
Despite receiving hundreds of complaints, the State Election Commission has reportedly failed to take any action, he said.
"Even though the BJP raised these concerns during all-party meetings, no solutions have been offered. The situation has reached a point where approaching the courts is the only option left," he added.
He further stated that the ward delimitation process contains major flaws. The delimitation was carried out without considering the submitted complaints, and the manner in which it was executed now threatens to undermine the election process itself.
He demanded that the Delimitation Commission clarify what action has been taken on the hundreds of evidence-backed complaints submitted.
There is a growing suspicion, he added, that officials in the Election Commission are acting in favor of the CPI(M).
The redefinition of boundaries has been done without proper scrutiny, resulting in gross irregularities. In many wards, up to 500 voters have reportedly been added or shifted arbitrarily, often including houses that do not even fall within the respective ward boundaries.
The inclusion of such voters in the list appears to be a deliberate move to manipulate the election in favor of the ruling CPI(M)-led LDF. The voter list has been prepared without giving any importance to the official delimitation maps. Multiple entries of the same house under the same name and number have also been found.
Chandrasekhar further pointed out that the voter list is riddled with basic errors and clerical mistakes. The conduct of Election Commission officials, who appear to disregard the significance of the voter list-a core document in the electoral process-raises serious doubts about their impartiality.
The BJP has demanded immediate corrective measures to ensure that the democratic process remains transparent and fair. The party warned that if the issues are not resolved promptly, it will be forced to launch public agitations and initiate legal proceedings...////...
