Srinagar, Nov 25 (Reporter) The cold intensified in the Kashmir Valley after snowfall on higher reaches, with hill resorts of Gulmarg and Pahalgam emerging as the coldest spots.
The Meteorological Centre officials said Gulmarg's minimum temperature dropped to -2.4°C on Monday, compared to -1.5°C the previous night.
The MeT officials said, after experiencing the fresh snowfall a day ago, the minimum temperature recorded during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday at the ski resort of Gulmarg was 0.5°C below normal for the valley of meadows in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Pahalam had a low of minus 2.3°C against the 0.2°C recorded the previous night and it was 0.2°C below normal for the tourist destination of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday.
The minimum temperature at Srinagar dropped and recorded at 4.0°C on Monday against the 4.8°C a day ago and it was 3.9°C above normal for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir during this period of the season.
With overcast sky in Srinagar and its adjoining areas, experiencing cold weather conditions even as the maximum temperature also witnessed marginal drop recorded at 13.7°C on Sunday which was 0.2°C below normal for the place. The maximum temperature also dropped in other stations of the Kashmir valley on the previous day by 0 to 6°C.
Qazigund recorded a low of 5.0°C, Kupwara 1.2°C and the picnic spot of Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded at 2.8°C on Monday, the MeT office said.
The weather is likely to remain generally dry till November 30 evening, the MeT office said adding on December 1 another Western Disturbance (WD) is likely to hit and can cause light rain and light snow over the higher reaches and at the scattered to fairly widespread places. Thereafter the weather will generally remain dry till December 5, they said...////...
