Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav visited the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Friday and paid floral tribute to the portrait of former Chief Minister Late Shri Nareshchandra Singh on his birth anniversary. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that Shri Nareshchandra Singh holds a unique place in the state’s history as the only tribal Chief Minister from the Raj Gond community. He was the sixth Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. His 13-day tenure was from 13 March 1969 to 25 March 1969—during the period of the Samvida Government. Due to political instability, his term remained very brief. MLA Shri Bhagwandas Sabnani, the Principal Secretary of the Legislative Assembly, public representatives, and officials were present on the occasion.

Former Chief Minister Shri Nareshchandra Singh was born on 21 November 1908. He belonged to a tribal royal lineage and served as the ruler of the Sarangarh princely state until its merger with the Indian Union in January 1948. After independence, he won the first general elections to the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 1951. He remained a member of the Legislative Assembly from 1952 to 1969 and became the first Tribal Welfare Minister of Madhya Pradesh. He also held the portfolios of the Electricity Department and the Public Works Department.
