Jammu, Mar 6 (Reporter) The Central Bureau of Investigation on Thursday arrested the accused Section Officer of the Sheep and Husbandry and Fisheries Section, Agriculture Production Department, Civil Secretariat, Govt. of J&K, Jammu for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant through UPI transaction.
The official spokesman here said that a case was registered on March 5, 2025, by CBI against the accused on allegations that the accused demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from the complainant for issuing and processing the case of his father for appointment as Stock Assistant in the Department, pursuant to Advertisement No. 3 of 2007 of J&K Service Selection Board and CAT (Jammu) order on October 15, 2024.
The bribe amount was allegedly negotiated, and the accused was asked to pay Rs 50,000 as a bribe through online UPI, and once a favourable decision is taken in this regard, the accused will further ask for the remaining amount.
The CBI laid a trap on March 5, 2025, and caught the accused after demanding and accepting a bribe from the complainant through an online UPI transaction at the mobile number provided by the accused, he said.
The spokesman said that the CBI also conducted searches at the residential premises of the accused at Jammu.
The accused was subsequently arrested and was produced before the Court of Special Judge, Anti-Corruption (CBI Cases), Jammu, on March 6, 2025, and the Ld. Court remanded the accused to Judicial Custody for 14 days.
