Agartala, Apr 26 (Reporter) The ruling BJP in Tripura has been facing criticism after vandalising the opposition CPI-M’s party offices in two places and assaulting a number of its leaders in North Tripura and Agartala, when the entire country united against the terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam in Kashmir. According to the report, CPI-M had organised statewide rallies, mass sit-in demonstrations, and deputations demanding 200 days of work and Rs 340 wages for MGNREGA, immediate payment of pending wages, and regular supply of essential commodities at subsidised rates through PDS before 31 Rural Development Blocks across the state. CPI-M state secretary and leader of opposition (LoP) Jitendra Chaudhury alleged that during their deputation before the BDO of Dukli in Agartala, a group of BJP workers entered the BDO's official chamber and created chaos, but the alert BDO thwarted the situation. After the deputation, when the party supporters and leader returned to Dukli sub-divisional party office, opposite Amtali police station, a group of youths started indiscriminate stone pelting, targeting and ransacking a car and motorbikes parked in front of the office. “Unfortunately, BJP cadres displayed their muscle power in front of police and continued their attacks; police remained silent spectators. Despite lodging specific complaints, police didn’t arrest anybody,” Chaudhury alleged and added that when the prime minister and chief minister of the state urged them to be united against Pakistan, their cadres displayed lawlessness; yet no action was taken. In another attack at Dharmanagar of North Tripura, a group of BJP workers, after a motorbike rally without any provocation, ransacked the CPI-M party office in Dharmanagar and physically assaulted four leaders in broad daylight. During deputation in Rajnagar block under South Tripura district, BJP cadres attempted to create a ruckus but failed. ‘A large section of people living in rural and hilly areas of the state are suffering from a food and job crisis. The ruling party, instead of proving them some relief, has engaged with hooliganism to stop the voices of common people,” Chaudhury alleged and when opposition parties raised the issues, BJP cadres resorted to attack. He also urged the Chief Minister, Dr Manik Saha, to maintain his impartial rule as Chief Minister and ensure protection for the democratic rights of opposition parties...////...
