Bihar assembly passes Rs 47,512 crore first supplementary budget for 2024-25

Patna, July 25 (Reporter) Bihar assembly passed Rs 47,512 crore first supplementary budget including over Rs 10391 crore for education department for the financial year 2024-25. Replying on behalf of the government in the state assembly during the post lunch sitting on Thursday, the human resources development Minister Sunil Kumar outlined the achievements and the schemes of the state government for improving the quality of education within the state. He said that the state government was committed to provide quality education to every section of the society including scheduled caste, extremely backward caste, other backward caste, women, minorities and the oppressed sections. Outlining the infrastructure details of the education system, the Minister said that more than 74000 schools were functional and the state has more than 5 lakh 77 thousand teachers including that of colleges and universities. He said more than 1 lakh 73 thousand school teachers were appointed by the BPSC on one single day and an additional 1 lakh 60 thousand teachers would be appointed. There are 26000 computer teachers in the state. More than 1 lakh teachers qualified the Eligibility Test examination held to accord them the status of state employee and 85000 others have already taken the examination, informed the Minister. The Minister said that the people teacher ratio which was 65:1 into has increased to 32:1. The strength of out of school students was only one percent, he informed. Sharing the welfare measures being adopted by the state government he said the government was making more liberal transfer policies for the teachers in which special attention would be given to the women and those suffering from diseases as well as to the couples (husband and wife). He said that the government was also paying extra attention for the training of the teachers and has made a provision for their training twice a year. Apart from welfare measures the government was also focusing on developing the infrastructure of the schools, he said and requested the members of the house to prepare a list of 10 schools in their respective areas for renovation. He further said that the government was planning to conduct the examinations online through Bihar school examination board. Speaking about the mid day meal scheme he said that one crore 10 lakh students were being provided mid day meal everyday. Later the House passed the first supplementary budget worth Rs 47,512 crore for various departments including the education department with voice vote. Related appropriation bill (3) for the year 2024 was also passed by the house...////...
