New Delhi, Jan 28 (Reporter) Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann met with the Election Commission (EC) officials on Tuesday, requesting to setup joint team to inspect the alarming levels of ammonia in the Yamuna water supplied to Delhi by the Haryana government.
Addressing the media, Atishi said, “EC has taken the issue seriously and assured a resolution.”
“The EC has assured that water is a sensitive matter. After hearing Haryana’s side, they will make a decision in the interest of Delhi residents,” Atishi said.
Atishi informed that she demanded the EC to form a joint team comprising engineers from the Haryana and Delhi governments, along with representatives from the EC. This team should inspect the ammonia levels at the points where water is released in Haryana and where it enters Delhi.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said, “It is wrong to claim during elections that water will only be provided if you vote for the BJP or if the BJP forms the government. Politics should not be done on essential issues such as water.”
“Water comes from Himachal Pradesh to Punjab, and we send it to Haryana. We have never reduced Haryana’s water supply. We provide them with their rightful share of water. If polluted water reaches the Wazirabad Water Treatment Plant, the EC has said that they will test the water to determine ammonia levels at the point where Haryana releases water and at Wazirabad. We have asked the EC to investigate this and check the data from the past year as well,” he said.
“We have demanded that the Haryana government stop discharging polluted water into the Yamuna or provide additional water to Delhi through the Munak Canal so that the BJP does not turn this into a political issue in Delhi,” he added...////...
