Arson case filed against former Bangladesh health minister

Dhaka, Sep 27 (Reporter) A case has been filed against former Bangladesh health minister Zahid Maleque and 240 others in connection with an arson attack on the Manikganj District BNP office during the anti-discrimination student movement, media reports said. Others named in the case include Manikganj District Awami League President Golam Mohiuddin and General Secretary Abdus Salam, Mohammad Murad Hossain, convener of Jatiotabadi Swecchasebak Dal Manikganj municipal unit and lawyer at Manikganj Court, filed a case at Manikganj Sadar Police Station on Wednesday. According to the case statement, under the direction of Zahid Maleque, and with the planning and support of Golam Mohiuddin and Abdus Salam, the accused poured petrol and set fire to the BNP office and a motorcycle on August 4, the report said. The statement also mentions that firearms and other weapons were brandished during the incident, which caused damages estimated at Tk5 lakh. The case named 91 individuals and accused 150 unidentified persons, the Dhaka Tribune reported. Manikganj Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Amanullah confirmed the case filing. According to reports, the other accused include Awami League leaders Sultanul Azam Khan Apel, Kazi Enayet Hossain Tipu, Sudeb Kumar Saha, Amirul Islam Mattu, Abu Bakar Siddique Tushar, Abul Bashar, Abdur Razzaq Raja, Mahbubur Rahman Jony, Sifat Quraishi Suman, Rajidul Islam, Babul Sarkar, Israpheel Hossain (a cousin of Zahid Maleque), Afsar Uddin Sarkar, Arshad Ali Biswas, Zahidul Islam, Hashem Ali, and several leaders from affiliated organisations...////...
