Air Customs intelligence unit seizes drugs worth Rs 40 crore at Karipur International Airport

Malappuram, May 14 (Reporter) In a major drug bust, the Air Customs intelligence unit sleuths, seized 34 KG of Hybrid Ganja (Cannabis) and 15 KG of drug laced chocolates, cake and cream biscuits, valued around Rs 40 crore, from three women passengers, who arrived from Thailand via Kuala Lumpur on Air Asia AK 33 flight at Karipur International Airport, on Wednesday. According to Customs sources, the contraband was recovered from three women. It arrested Rabiyath Saidhu Sainudheen (40) of Chennai, Kavitha Rajesh Kumar (40) of Coimbatore, both from Tamil Nadu State, and Simi Balakrishnan (39) of Thrissur district in Kerala, in this connection. The women arrived from Kuala Lumpur on AirAsia Flight at around 2345 hrs on Tuesday night. Air Customs sleuths acted on a tip-off and intercepted the women shortly after they landed. The raid led to the discovery of the narcotics hidden among their belongings. The operation follows a similar incident a day earlier, when the Kondotty police and DANSAF team seized 18 kg of hybrid ganja valued at around Rs 9 crore, smuggled from Abu Dhabi, from Karipur International Airport. The drugs, smuggled from Abu Dhabi, were abandoned by a trafficker who fled upon realizing he was being tracked by police.
