77th Delhi Police Raising day: Rai lauds inclusion of women in security forces

New Delhi, Feb 16 (Reporter) Applauding the display of all women contingent at the parade on the occasion of 77th Delhi Police raising day on Friday, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai said inclusion of women has strengthened the security and future of the country. The Minister also congratulated the all-women marching contingent and band of Delhi Police, which was adjudged the best marching contingent in the Republic Day parade this year. “By providing equal opportunities for women to excel and lead within the force, the fabric of our society has been strengthened, and the cause of gender equality has advanced,” he said. Commending the dedication and sacrifice displayed by Delhi Police in ensuring the safety and security of the national capital, Rai said, "The Delhi Police has demonstrated exemplary performance in safeguarding the safety and security of the citizens." Acknowledging the contributions of several officers and personnel who had been honoured with prestigious awards, Rai appreciated the police for its relentless pursuit of excellence in smart policing, leveraging digital initiatives, and technological innovation, as well as the implementation of citizen-friendly platforms for filing reports. Recalling the government's resolve to empower the police with infrastructure, technology, and training, Rai said, 'National Forensic Science Universities campuses have been set up across nine states in India, and in the next two years, each state will have an NFSU campus to encourage research. The Minister further called upon the Delhi Police to be prepared with upgraded skills and resources for dealing with forthcoming challenges. Addressing the event, Commissioner of Police Sanjay Arora recalled how Delhi Police personnel had performed duties during the G20 summit with the highest professional standards. He further said, “For long-term development in human resources, Delhi Police had completed the recruitment process of 10,904 candidates in record time, and by year-end, a large number of them will join the force after due process.” Highlighting the efforts made by the police during the last year to curb street crime, Arora said, “Figures reflect that in 2023, there was a fall of 2.5% in heinous crime compared to that of 2022.” Medals were also presented to 51 police personnel for gallantry, distinguished service, meritorious service, and the Union Home Minister medal for excellence in investigation at the event. The trophies for the best police station were also given. The best police station trophy was bagged by PS Sultanpuri, while PS Okhla Industrial Area and PS Roop Nagar took the first and second runner-up trophies, respectively.
