Shimla, June 25(Reporter) Himachal Pradesh Police confirmed Tuesday that a 50-year-old pilgrim from Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, died after slipping on snow during his Shrikhand Kailash Yatra.
This marks the third fatality in the Shrikhand Yatra this year. Despite the pilgrimage being officially scheduled from July 14 to 27, devotees have already begun their ascent, defying administration instructions and braving hazardous conditions.
The deceased, Vinay Verma from Gulati village, embarked on the treacherous journey ahead of its official start date.
DySP Ani Chandrashekhar Kayth reported that Verma slipped near Shrikhand on June 19, falling approximately 200-250 meters down a snowy slope.
His brother, Sandeep Verma, confirmed the incident and mentioned that local residents were assisting in bringing the body to Jaon, after which it will be transported to Nirmand Hospital for further proceedings.
The Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra is renowned for its difficulty and thrilling challenges, making it one of the most arduous pilgrimages in North India. This year, the journey is particularly perilous due to excessive snow, contributing to the recent fatalities.
