Chennai, Feb 26 (Reporter) As the nascent Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)
stepped into its second year, its Founder and actor-politician Vijay on
Wednesday asserted that the 2026 Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu
will witness a turning point like what the State had been in 1967 and 1977.
Speaking at an event to mark the TVK's commencement of second year in
office at a private hall at Mahabalipuram, about 55 km from here, he said
the TVK was emerging as a leading political force in Tamil Nadu.
“We are a rising political force in Tamil Nadu. The 2026 elections will be a
turning point, just like the historic elections of 1967 and 1977", he said.
The 1967 and 1977 elections are history, he said, adding, similarly the State
will witness a revolutionary turnaround in 2026.
Referring to criticisms that TVK’s leadership consists mostly of young people,
Vijay said what’s wrong in it?
"Even when C.N. Annadurai (DMK stalwart and Founder) and MGR (AIADMK
Founder) started their movements, youth were behind them.
The youth played a crucial role. It was these young leaders who led the revolutionary
victories of 1967 and 1977. That is history,” he added.
Noting that political dynamics are unpredictable and alliances and rivalries
could change at any moment, Vijay pointed out the popular saying of political
parties that there are no permanent friends or foes in politics.
"Anyone can enter politics, but when people’s favorites enter the political arena,
it irritates some,” he added.
Taking a dig at both the ruling DMK and the BJP, Vijay both of them are fighting
like kindergarden students on the important Trilingual policy issue.
On the issue of Centre denying funds to Tamil Nadu under the SSA for the education
scheme linking it to implementation of the NEP and three-language formula, he said
"Our political and ideological enemies (DMK and BJP)--with tacit understanding--are
fighting like LKG and UKG students on this major issue".
"It was the duty of the Centre to release the funds and it was the right of Tamil Nadu
to get it", he said, adding, instead of addressing it, they are playing on social media
with 'Get Out hashtag campaigns, without having any concern for the people.
He accused both the parties of misleading people through their staged conflicts.
“They act as if they are fighting, and we are expected to believe it. What Bro? Very
Wrong Bro. Who are you fooling? The people of Tamil Nadu are not naive. We respect
all languages, but we will not compromise our self-respect,” he added.
On the oft-repeated remarks that ordinary people are holding the posts in TVK,
he sought to know what's wrong in it. "In those days, Pannayars (landlords) held
the posts. Later, ordinary people were given the posts and they became Pannaiyars
without caring for the people's welfare", he said.
Vijay said the main aim of the TVK was to oust these Pannayars in the 2026
Assembly elections.
Dismissing allegations that TVK is an elite-driven party, Vijay firmly said “Why
shouldn’t ordinary people become party administrators? TVK is not a party for
landlords or the elite; it is a party for the common people. Traditionally, landlords
and influential figures have held power, but today, even those in power are
transforming into a new class of elites, focusing only on money rather than
people’s welfare," he said...////...
