Dhaka, Jan 7 (Reporter) Intensifying its crackdown on the previous regime, the interim government led by Chief Adviser Mohammed Yunus has revoked the passport of ex-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, along with 75 others, for their alleged involvement in killings during the July-August ‘Student Uprising’. In a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka today, the Chief Advisor's Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder said: “The passport department cancelled passports of 22 people involved in enforced disappearances." "In addition, the passports of 75 people involved in or accused of the July killings have been revoked. Former prime minister Sheikh Hasina is one of them," he said, as per bdnews24. Asked whether India has been informed about the revocation of Hasina's passport, Azad said: "The Indian government is also aware that her passport has been cancelled and they have already reported that she has been issued a travel document.” Earlier in August, the government cancelled the diplomatic passports of Sheikh Hasina, all former ministers of her deposed government, and lawmakers following the dissolution of both her cabinet and the 12th parliament. On Monday, Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal issued arrest warrants for the ex-PM along with defence adviser Maj Gen (retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, ex-IGP Benazir Ahmed, and eight others. More than 100 cases have been filed against Hasina and her government's ministers, MPs, and the top Awami League leaders. Sheikh Hasina has been living in exile in India since August 5, when she fled to India following the 'student-led' mass uprising. Since then, several requests; including an official note verbale, have been made by the current army-backed administration to repatriate her back to Bangladesh. However, New Delhi has maintained silence.
