Chennai, Dec 6 (Reporter) Yet another Low Pressure area over the Bay will form tomorrow
and it is expected to brig heavy rains for Tamil Nadu, Met office said on Friday.
This would be the second system over the Bay in the last one week, after the earlier
Low Pressure intensified and concentrated into Cyclonic Storm Fengal and crossed
the coast late on last Saturday night between North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
The Cyclone battered several North coastal and interior districts, including Villupuram,
Cuddalore, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Kallakurichi, Tiruvannmalai and Puducherry which
had received unprecedented rains never seen before, besides Chennai and its
neighbouring districts and also in Cauvery delta region.
Even as the Tamil Nadu government is actively involved in relief and rehabilitation works,
yet another Low Pressure area over the Bay will form tomorrow and would be heading
towards Tamil Nadu coast on December 12.
"Yesterday’s cyclonic circulation over southeast Arabian sea and neighbourhood now lies
over southwest and adjoining southeast Arabian sea and extends upto 1.5 km above mean
sea level", Met office said.
An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over Equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining southeast
Bay of Bengal and extends upto 3.1 km above mean sea level.
Under its influence, a Low Pressure area is likely to form over central parts of south Bay of
Bengal tomorrow.
The system is likely to move west-northwestwards and reach over southwest Bay of Bengal
off Sri-Lanka-Tamil Nadu coasts around December 12.
For the next seven days, the Met has forecast light to moderate rain with thunderstorm and
lightning at one or two places is likely to occur over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal
area till December 10.
The next day, light to moderate rain is likely to occur at a few places over Coastal Tamil Nadu,
at one or two places over Interior Tamilnadu and over Puducherry and Karaikal area.
Heavy rain is likely to occur at one or two places in the Cauvery delta districts of Mayiladuthurai,
Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai and also in Ramanathapuram district of Tamil
Nadu and Karaikal area.
On December 12, light to moderate rain is likely to occur at many places over Coastal Tamil
Nadu, at a few places over Interior Tamil Nadu and over Puducherry and Karaikal area.
Heavy rain is likely to occur at one or two places over Chengalpattu, Viluppuram, Cuddalore,
Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai and Ramanathapuram districts
of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area.
The forecast for Chennai city and its neighbourhood is Light/Moderate rain is likely to occur in
some areas during evening or night.
