Mumbai Apr 10 (Reporter) A physician by profession, Pakistan born Tahawwur Hussain Rana is a key facilitator of terrorism who has been linked to major terror plots in Denmark and India.
Born on January 12, 1961 ar Chichawatni in the Punjab Province of Pakistan, Rana served as a captain general duty practitioner in the Pakistan Army Medical Corps.
He and his wife, who is also a physician, immigrated to Canada in 1997 and obtained Canadian citizenship in June 2001.
He lived primarily in Chicago and owns several businesses including an immigration service agency, First World Immigration Services, with offices in Chicago, New York and Toronto.
Rana and Pakistan-American terrorist David Coleman Headley had attended training camps that Lashkar operated in Pakistan
On 18 October 2009, Rana and Headley were arrested for allegedly plotting to attack the offices of Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten, which had published cartoons of Prophet Muhammad.
Rana had travelled to Mumbai and stayed in the Taj Mahal Hotel, one of the places which was attacked by terrorists during 26/11
On May 16, 2011, the trial began against Rana in the US District Court. but he was acquitted by the jury a month later of conspiracy to provide material support to the November 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai that killed more than 160 people, including six Americans.
However, the wheels of fortune agan turned against Rana In March-April 2016, as Headley, during his video-conferencing deposition, provided details of the role played by the physician.
