Western Himalayan Region to expect rainfall from March 11-13: IMD

New Delhi, Mar 7 (Reporter) Light scattered to fairly widespread rainfall and snowfall is expected over the Western Himalayan Region from March 11 to 13, the India Meteorological Department said on Thursday. It also forecasts light rainfall over adjoining plains on March 12 and 13. According to IMD, fresh western disturbances are likely to affect northwest India during the night of March 10 and 12, under its influence isolated to scattered moderate rainfall and snowfall are likely over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh and isolated rainfall and snowfall likely over Uttarakhand during March 10-12. “Scattered to fairly widespread light rainfall and snowfall accompanied by isolated thunderstorms and lightning is likely over the region on March 13 and 14,” the IMD said. The weather department further said, “Isolated to scattered rainfall very likely over Punjab on March 12 and 13; over Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh on March 13. It further predicted that strong surface winds up to 35 kmph are likely to prevail over the plains of Northwest India except south Rajasthan on March 9 and 10. The MeT department said, ”Isolated rainfall is likely over Odisha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during March 7-9; over Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh on March 7. “Scattered moderate rainfall and snowfall is very likely over Arunachal Pradesh on March 7 and isolated light rainfall and snowfall during the subsequent 6 days,” it added.
