New Delhi, June 26 (Reporter) Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday said the government will make another appeal to Congress-led Opposition in the Lok Sabha Speaker appointment issue but "if we are pushed into election, we are prepared". The minister made these remarks ahead of the likely election to the highest seat in the Lower House which is scheduled at 11 am today. "It's not the question of numbers. It is better for all of us to elect the Speaker unanimously. I think we still have time and we will make one more appeal to the Congress party but if we are pushed into the election, we are prepared," Rijiju said. "We all are colleagues in the House and we have to work together. When we give an offer to them (Opposition), we expect that the offer is accepted gracefully but that has not been done," he told reporters here. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will move the motion that Om Birla be chosen as the Speaker of Lok Sabha at 11 am when Parliament resumes. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will second the motion as the post will see an election for the first time since 1976. Om Birla was fielded as the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) candidate for the Speaker for the second time, and will face the Opposition-led INDIA bloc's K Suresh. Both the BJP and the Congress issued a three-line-whip on June 25 to its MPs to be present in the House today...////...
