Kolkata, Sep 7 (Reporter) West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose has forwarded the ‘Aparajita Woman and Child (West Bengal Criminal Laws and Amendment) Bill 2024’ to President Droupadi Murmu for her assent after it was passed unanimously in the state assembly early this week, official sources said on Saturday.
Bose forwarded the Bill to the President after Raj Bhavan received the mandatory technical report from the Mamata Banerjee ministry.
However, the gubernatorial office expressed its displeasure over the failure of the Assembly secretariat to provide the text of the debates and its translation as required under the rules, a Raj Bhavan Media Cell stated on X.
The amendment Bill was passed by the assembly seeking stringment punitive action, including capital punishment after judicial process in a fast-track court.
The government brought the Bill which was fully supported by the only opposition party in the assembly, BJP, in the wake of August nine rape and murder of a 31-year old medic in the R G Kar Hospital in the city...////...
