Srinagar, Jan 14 (Reporter) The Veterans Day celebrations was held at various military stations across Kashmir on Tuesday.
The main event was organized under the aegis of Chinar Corps at Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry Regimental Centre, Srinagar.
The General Officer Commanding of south Kashmir based Victor Force Maj Gen Dhananjay Joshi along with Brig Ved Beniwal, Commandant, JAK LI Regt Centre and other senior Officials, veterans, Veer Matas, Veer Naris and gallantry awardees attended the event.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh addressed veterans through Video Conferencing from Akhnoor Jammu.
A defence spokesman said the event witnessed considerable attendance despite inclement weather conditions in the Kashmir Valley, displaying everlasting grit and determination of a soldier. A total of 143 veterans, 40 Veer Matas/Veer Naris and two Wards of War heroes/ Veterans attended the same.
The event was aimed to celebrate their service to the Nation. The opportunity was also leveraged to provide first-hand information on various welfare schemes & redressal of problems being faced by the Veterans and Veer Naris.
The attendees were informed about various welfare projects being undertaken by the Central and State Governments. In order to felicitate instant mitigation; various stalls were established by ECHS, AWPO, DZR(NC), DPDO, Medical Camp, Zila Sainik Welfare Board, JAK LI Records & Banks, the spokesman said.
Maj Gen Joshi felicitated the Veterans, Veer Matas and Veer Naris. He expressed his gratitude towards the war heroes, who had made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty and assured the attendees of continuous assistance from the Army.
Indian Armed Forces Veterans Day is celebrated every year on January 14, to commemorate superannuation of First Commander-in-Chief of Indian Armed Forces, Field Marshal KM Cariappa.
The day celebrates the indomitable spirit and service of soldiers who had served the Nation with pride.
A function was also held by the Army at Trehgam under the aegis of the Hajipir Brigade to pay tribute to the selfless service, patriotism and valour of the veterans of Kupwara district.
The event was graced by a large number of ex-servicemen (ESM) and Veer Naris, who were honoured in the true spirit of the Indian Army. The event recognised their immense contribution in nation building as a fundamental block of civil society.
Several Veer Naris were felicitated and the event saw healthy interaction of the ex servicemen with representatives of notable agencies like Zila Sainik Welfare Office, Defence Pension Disbursement Office and JAK LI Regt Records; who were present for grievance redressal and guidance on policies and schemes which are beneficial for our ESM.
The event provided a 'One Stop Resolution Forum' to any issues being faced by them and reinstated the astute commitment of the Indian Army towards care , welfare and honour of our esteemed ESM fraternity.
Indian Army also celebrated 9th Armed Force Veteran’s Day in north Kashmir’s Handwara sub- district.
The Army said they organized an ex-servicemen’s rally at Pohrupet, Handwara to commemorate 9th Armed Force Veterans Day, honouring the invaluable contributions of ex-servicemen, Veer Naris, and Veer Matas.

The rally saw an enthusiastic participation of a large number of ex-servicemen and families of martyrs. Various assistance booths were established, showcasing the collaborative efforts of government departments and local institutions towards addressing the concerns of veterans and extending assistance to them.
As a part of the rally, Government Medical College (GMC) set up a medical camp offering free consultations and healthcare services to the attendees.
Representatives of Agriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries departments provided guidance on farming techniques and Government initiatives aimed at supporting rural livelihoods.
The civil administration and veterans Sahayata Kendra were also present to address grievances of the Veterans and render necessary assistance.
The event was a testament to the strong bond between the Indian Army and its veterans, emphasizing their importance to the nation, Army said.
