UP:BJP announces candidates for two LS and four Assembly by-polls

Lucknow, Apr 16 (Reporter) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday announced two more candidates for Lok Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh along with four Assembly seats where by-elections are to be held for different reasons. The party has fielded Shashank Mani Tripathi from the Deoria seat. An MBA, Shashank is the son of former Lieutenant General and two-time MP from Deoria Prakash Mani Tripathi. It may be noted that Ramapati Ram Tripathi, who had served as the President of the Uttar Pradesh unit of BJP, is a sitting MP from Deoria. In Firozabad the party has named Thakur Vishwadeep Singh as its candidate. Chandra Sen Jadon is the sitting MP. Singh's father Brij Raj Singh was elected as an MP on the Socialist Party ticket in 1957. He contested Lok Sabha polls as Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate in 2014 but lost and was placed third. He later joined the BJP around the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections in 2022. Besides, the party has also announced candidates for four Assembly seats where by-polls are scheduled to be held. On Gainsari's seat in Balrampur district, the party has named former MLA Shailendra Singh Shalu as its candidate. The Assembly seat fell vacant following the demise of sitting MLA and senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Dr SP Yadav, who passed away in January this year. In fact, in 2022 it was SP Yadav, who defeated BJP candidate Shailu, from Gainsari. In the 2017 Assembly polls, Shailu was elected MLA from the Gainsari seat by defeating Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate Alauddin. At that time SP Yadav too contested the poll as SP nominee and was placed third. From Lucknow East Assembly seat the party has named OP Shrivastava as its candidate. This seat fell vacant due to the death of sitting MLA Ashutosh Tandaon Gopalji, who was the son of former Governor and veteran BJP leader Lalji Tandon. The party has fielded Arvind Singh, son of former MLA Manvendra Singh, from Dadraul Assembly seat. This seat fell vacant following the demise of sitting MLA Manvendra Singh in January this year. From Duddhi seat the party has named Sharwan Gond as its candidate. This seat fell vacant after the disqualification of sitting MLA Ram Gular Gond after he was convicted and sentenced to 25 years imprisonment by a court for the rape of a minor girl...////...
