UP: Woman attempts immolation near CM's home

Lucknow, Aug 6 (Reporter) A woman attempted self-immolation near the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's residence in Uttar Pradesh's capital, Lucknow, on Tuesday morning, police said. She was admitted to the Civil Hospital in critical condition and later referred to the Medical College due to the severity of her injuries. Police sources revealed that Anjali Jatav, a resident of the Purwa area in Unnao, poured flammable liquid on herself and set herself on fire. A one-year-old child with her at the time of the incident has been shifted to a child care centre, police said. The nearby police personnel immediately rushed her to the Civil Hospital on Park Road. Given the seriousness of her condition, she was then referred to the burn ward of KGMU Hospital. They further mentioned that a complaint letter was found in a bag near the woman, in which she accused her in-laws of harassment. She claimed that the Purwa police were not listening to her. Her in-laws had also taken her jewellery and money. The police are investigating the matter. Sources in the Unnao district administration stated that the victim had previously attended public hearings and the District Magistrate's tehsil day, claiming no action had been taken on her complaints. The District Magistrate had instructed the Unnao police and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Purwa to take appropriate action. They also mentioned that the woman's husband and brother-in-law were presented in the court of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Purwa on August 5, where, after hearing both sides, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate sent the woman's husband and brother-in-law to jail...////...
