Ghazipur, Jan 31 (Reporter) Eight persons were killed and 12 others injured when a pickup van in which they were travelling collided with a truck in Nandganj area of Ghazipur district in Uttar Pradesh on Friday, police sources said here.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of the road accident and expressed condolences to the bereaved families of the deceased.
The CM has directed the district administration to immediately send the injured to the hospital and provide them proper treatment. Along with this, he has also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Police sources said that the incident took place near Sahedi village when a pickup van carrying pilgrims collided with a truck on Varanasi Gorakhpur Highway. "Eight persons travelling in the pickup van died on the spot and a dozen others were injured," they said.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Iran Raja said that all the deceased and injured are residents of Gorakhpur. "They were going back to Gorakhpur via Varanasi after attending Prayagraj Maha Kumbh," he said.
The deceased include 4 women and a 5-year-old girl. The injured are being treated at Ghazipur Medical College.
The police and administrative officers reached the spot and the injured were sent to the hospital for treatment. The deceased include Sudha Chaurasia, Shyam Sundar, Nitya Singh, Surendra Gupta, Lilavati, Pushpa Devi and Gulabi Devi of Gorakhpur. Another person is yet to be identified...////...
