UP: 5 killed, 10 injured as bus catches fire, 3 engineers suspended

Ghazipur/Lucknow, Mar 11 (Reporter) Five persons were killed and 10 others injured when a bus caught fire after it came into contact with a high-tension power line in the Mardah area of Ghazipur district in Uttar Pradesh on Monday, police sources said here. Taking cognizance of the incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the local officials to rush to the hospital and ensure free treatment of the injured. He announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of those killed in the mishap and financial assistance of Rs 50,000 to the seriously injured. Meanwhile, cracking the whip Energy Minister AK Sharma has suspended three engineers and terminated services of a lineman on charges of laxity. He also visited Ghazipur and Mau and met the affected families. Police sources said that the incident took place when a marriage party from Khiriya Kajha village in Mau district was on the way to Mardah. "Near Mahahar Dham the bus came into contact with a high-tension wire and caught fire. Around 38 people were travelling in the bus at the time of the incident," they said. District Magistrate Aryaka Akhoury confirmed the death of five persons in the incident. "10 people were injured in the incident and have been admitted to the hospital," sources said. Energy Minister Sharma, who rushed to Ghazipur on the directive of CM Yogi, has directed to suspend Executive Engineer Manish, Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) Santosh Chaudhary and Junior Engineer Pradeep Kumar Rai. He also directed to terminate services of lineman Narendra. He spoke to the Managing Director of Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam, Divisional Commissioner, District Magistrate and Superintending Engineer and directed them to expedite relief work and provide all possible help to the affected people, including arranging for proper treatment of the injured...////...
