Chennai, Feb 7 (Reporter) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M K Stalin
on Friday charged the Centre with being indifferent to the continued arrests and
harassment of Indian fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy, while demanding a
permanent solution to safeguard their livelihood.
He said despite writing multiple letters seeking strong diplomatic intervention, the
Centre was indifferent on the issue.
Mr Stalin cited the protest staged by the MPs from the DMK and alliance party MPs
from Tamil Nadu in the Parliament premises in New Delhi today demanding immediate
release of 97 TN fishermen and 216 fishing boats impounded by the Sri Lankan Navy.
In post on X, Mr Stalin said "Despite my multiple letters urging strong diplomatic
intervention, the Union Govt remains indifferent as the Sri Lankan Navy persistently
arrests and harasses our fishermen."
"Today, DMK MPs & MPs from allied parties in Tamil Nadu staged a protest in
Parliament premises, demanding immediate release of our 97 fishermen and
216 seized boats", he said.
"The Union Government must wake up and secure a permanent resolution to safeguard
our fishermen’s livelihood! #SaveTNFishermen", he added...////...
