Dhaka, Sep 29 (Reporter) Rabab Fatima, UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing States, met with Bangladesh government Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus and assured him of her office's full support for Bangladesh's smooth transition to LDC graduation, media reports said.
The conference took place in New York on the fringes of the United Nations General Assembly.
"I commended Bangladesh for its longstanding support for UNOHRLLS's work and strong commitment to LDC issues," she added, adding that meeting the top adviser was a privilege.
They talked about the Doha Programme of Action (DPoA) implementation, The Dhaka Tribune reported.
In August 2022, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres named Rabab Fatima as the undersecretary-general and high representative for the Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), and Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
As the high representative, she is in charge of assisting LDCs, LLDCs, and SIDS in attaining the Sustainable Development Goals and the plans of action established by global agreement.
These countries collectively make up the world's 92 most vulnerable countries.
