London/New Delhi, Mar 6 (Reporter) British MP Bob Blackman has lambasted the government of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer over External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar being heckled by Khalistani elements in London yesterday, and termed it an affront to democracy. Raising the issue in the British Parliament, Blackman, Conservative MP, said in a statement: “Yesterday, Pro-Khalistan thugs attempted to attack the External Affairs Minister from India, Shri Jaishankar. “This is against the Geneva Convention, and it appears that the police and the security forces failed to ensure that he was made safe. "This is an affront to democracy, it’s an affront to our friends and allies in India; and we need to make sure that it doesn’t happen again. “So, will the government ensure that the Home Secretary or an appropriate minister makes a statement to this House about what protection we’re going to make sure when we have external visitors to this country, that they are safe.” The UK government’s representative in Parliament apologised for the incident, but she was clueless on who was attacked. Later, Blackman told an Indian news channel that “…there is no doubt that some Labour politicians may have some sympathies for the Khalistani cause”. On Wednesday evening, EAM Jaishankar was heckled by a group of Khalistani supporters who were shouting anti-India slogans when the minister was going for a programme in London. As the External Affairs Minister left the venue, one among the pro-Khalistani elements dashed in front of his car and tore the national flag of India, according to visuals on social media. The pro-Khalistani elements were shouting slogans using mikes as the EAM arrived for his talk at Chatham House and remained at the venue when he left, with the local police standing by quietly. In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said: “We have seen the footage of a breach of security during the visit of EAM to the UK. “We condemn the provocative activities of this small group of separatists and extremists. “We deplore the misuse of democratic freedoms by such elements. “We expect the host government in such cases to fully live upto their diplomatic obligations...////...
