Kuala Lumpur, Jan 20 (Reporter) Day three of the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup 2025 witnessed a mix of commanding performances and nail-biting finishes as South Africa and England registered emphatic victories, while Scotland overcame a tense battle to edge past Nepal by a solitary wicket.
In the most gripping encounter of the day, Scotland chased down a modest target of 73 against Nepal but not without a scare. Meanwhile, South Africa made short work of Samoa, dismissing them for a paltry 16 runs, and England displayed their dominance by comfortably defeating Pakistan.
Electing to bat, Nepal faltered under pressure from Scotland's disciplined bowling attack, collapsing to 73 all out in 18.5 overs. Maisie Maceira’s sensational five-wicket haul, supported by Amelie Baldie and Nayma Sheikh, proved too much for the Nepalese batswomen. Skipper Puja Mahato top-scored with 27 off 43 balls.
In response, Scotland struggled as Nepal’s bowlers and sharp fielding reduced them to 37/6. However, Pippa Sproul held her nerve, scoring a crucial 35 off 47 deliveries, guiding her team to victory with just one wicket to spare.
England’s bowlers were in fine form as Pakistan, put in to bat, managed only 66 runs in 18.5 overs. Amruthaa Surenkumar’s fiery spell of 3/9 set the tone, while Tilly Corteen-Coleman, Olivia Brinsden, and Eve O'Neill shared six wickets among them.
Chasing the modest target, England batswomen made light work of the challenge, achieving victory in 9.2 overs. Katie Jones, who scored 20 off 16 balls and excelled behind the stumps, was adjudged Player of the Match.
South Africa delivered a commanding performance against Samoa, bowling them out for just 16 runs in 9.1 overs. Nthabiseng Nini was the standout performer with 3/4, while Fay Cowling, Seshnie Naidu, and Kayla Reyneke took two wickets each.
The chase was a mere formality, with South Africa racing to 17 runs in just 1.4 overs. Nini’s allround effort earned her the Player of the Match award as South Africa moved to the top of Group C...////...
