Ankara, Jan 15 (Reporter) Turkey carried out new air raids in the north of Iraq and Syria against the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), the Turkish Defence Ministry announced.
On Friday, nine Turkish soldiers were killed and four others were injured in an attack by militants of the PKK, designated by Ankara as a terrorist organisation. Following the attack, the Turkish air force conducted air operations in northern Iraq and Syria on Friday and Saturday.
"Our steel claws continue to destroy the lairs of terrorists. As a result of the surprise air operations organised in the areas of Metina and Gara in northern Iraq, 10 more PKK terrorists were neutralised," the Turkish Defence Ministry said on Sunday.
In total, 24 PKK militants were eliminated during the air raids in Iraq and Syria, the ministry said in a separate statement.
The Turkish airstrikes left two Syrian power plants in Al Hasakah province damaged, Syrian media reported on Sunday.
The armed conflict between the PKK and Turkey began in 1984 and reignited in 2015. The organisation, which seeks the creation of an independent Kurdish state, including on Turkish territory, has established bases in Iraqi and Syrian territories close to the Turkish border, where the Turkish military has been targeting them in land and air strikes...////...
