Washington, Sep 16 (Reporter) Ryan Wesley Routh, the suspect in the purported assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump, may have waited for more than 12 hours along the tree line at Trump's golf club, according to a criminal complaint filed on Monday, media reports said. Routh, 58, was charged with possessing a handgun despite being convicted felon. He as also accused of possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number at his first appearance in federal court on Monday morning, CNN reported The investigation into Sunday's suspected attempt on Trump's life is ongoing, and further charges may be filed, according to law enforcement authorities familiar with the situation. The initial gun-related charges were brought as prosecutors sought to hold Routh in custody while investigators investigated the incident. Routh nodded and said "yes" to Magistrate Judge Ryon M. McCabe's questioning while dressed in black prison scrubs and with his feet and hands cuffed. McCabe determined Routh couldn't afford his attorney after he stated he had "zero funds" in his savings. The federal public attorney assigned to Routh's case, Kristy Militello, declined to comment following the hearing. A detention hearing has been scheduled for September 23, with an arraignment planned for September 30. Routh will be detained in jail while awaiting trial. The incident occurred at 1-30 p.m. ET Sunday, when a Secret Service member observed the barrel of a weapon protruding over the fence between the 5th and 6th holes at Trump International Golf Club West Palm Beach, Florida, in a tree line along a regularly travelled road. According to charge documents unveiled on Monday, Routh may have spent over 12 hours on Sunday in the location where he was discovered in the bushes around the perimeter of the Trump International Golf Club. An FBI agent stated in an affidavit filed in court that during their initial investigation, authorities obtained phone records from T-Mobile indicating Routh's phone was "in the vicinity of the area" where he was first spotted by the US Secret Service from around 1:59 a.m. ET Sunday until 1:31 p.m. ET, when a Secret Service agent noticed his rifle poking out from a tree line. Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said the agent fired at the shooter, who was reportedly within 500 yards of Trump. According to Bradshaw, the shooter did not fire any rounds before fleeing in a vehicle. Authorities discovered a sniper's nest along the fence line, complete with a scoped rifle, a GoPro camera, and ceramic-plated bags. "This whole set-up indicates a very high level of pre-planning," said former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe. According to Bradshaw, a witness observed a guy rush from the bushes. A guy was caught in Martin County, nearly an hour from Trump's golf resort. Routh was driving his daughter's automobile when he was apprehended, according to a law enforcement source. After being caught, the Martin County Sheriff's Office issued a photo of him wearing a long-sleeved, salmon-coloured shirt with his hands tied behind his back. According to local state attorney David Aronberg, Routh remained silent when jailed. Trump's golf outing was not on his public calendar, and it is unclear how Routh reportedly knew where Trump would be at that time. According to Aronberg, Routh will face federal rather than state accusations. He told MSNBC that Florida contemplated pursuing state charges but backed off when federal officials took over the case...////...
