Tripura initiates plan to keep supply chain stable during monsoon

Agartala, May 23 (Reporter) As the monsoon approaches, Government of Tripura has initiated proactive measures to ensure the uninterrupted supply and price stability of essential commodities across the state. The Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister, Sushanta Chowdhury, chaired a high-level review meeting on Friday to assess preparedness and coordinate strategies to tackle potential disruptions. Acknowledging the state’s vulnerability to road blockages and logistical hurdles during the rainy season, the minister stressed the importance of early action to prevent supply chain disruptions and market irregularities. "Tripura’s geography makes transportation especially challenging during the monsoon, but we have taken comprehensive steps to ensure that essential commodities—including petroleum products and LPG—remain available at stable prices," Chowdhury said. The meeting focused on ensuring adequate stockpiling, uninterrupted distribution, and market regulation to avoid artificial scarcity and prevent black marketing. Officials also reviewed coordination mechanisms between government departments, oil companies, the Food Corporation of India (FCI), and local market committees. The Food Department has been directed to maintain strict vigilance to curb price inflation during any temporary road blockages caused by natural calamities, the minister said.
